School of Nursing
The School of Nursing was started in March
1993 as a teaching arm of the hospital 
The objective and philosophy of this institution is to prepare
nurses who will function as members of the health team, with
competencies for first level positions in both hospital and
community. We provide our students with knowledge and equip them
with professional expertise to meet the changing demands of
society.
We believe that Nursing education is a process of growth
directed towards development of the student as a prospective
member of the nursing profession who will uphold the dignity of
the nursing profession.
We are looking forward to upgrading our School into a College of
Nursing.
SCHOOL:
The School of Nursing is situated in the hospital campus and is known
for its academic excellence and discipline . It has well equipped
laboratories and furnished classrooms. There is a Principals
office, Staff Room, Examination hall, Student counseling room
and a room for Records and audio-visual aids which are situated in
the ground floor of the School of Nursing.
FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING LAB - It is
furnished with six beds and all the necessary inventory articles
for practicing basic Nursing and Child Health Nursing procedures
are stored in a cupboard . The room has washbasins with
running water supply, proper lighting facilities and good
ventilation.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING LAB - It
has all articles required for practicing nursing procedure in a
community set-up
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY LAB - It has
a cupboard which contains charts, models of body systems, bones
and skeleton for learning experience of students. Specimens are
preserved and stored here. It has human pelvis and models to
practice mechanisms for midwifery students.
NUTRITION LAB - It has facilities
to practice cooking for the healthy as well as for the sick. It
is equipped with work tables, cooking stoves, gas connection,
washbasins with running water supply, cutlery, trays, plates
cooking utensils, racks, refrigerator and pressure cookers.

TRANSPORT:
A 25 seater vehicle is available for transport of students to the
community and for field visits.
LIBRARY:
It has comfortable seating arrangements for reading and writing.
The library is updated with current books, journals and other
literature. It has proper lighting facilities and good
ventilation. Books are arranged in the shelves, racks and
cupboards and there are about 500 books in the library.
COMMUNITY:
URBAN:
We post our students both 1st year and IIIrd year in Kamaraj
Nagar, Trichy.
It has a community health centre with a staff nurse.
Activities at the center are Immunization, Antenatal and postnatal checkups,
Conducting of deliveries, Treatment of minor injuries and Associated
with Training programmes for the students.
- Community surveys are conducted to diagnose the health status
of the community.
- Paediatric and antenatal clinics are conducted in the community
health centre
- Home visits to families
- Health education projects are conducted on Tuberculosis
control, Prevention of AIDS and family planning.
- School health programmes are conducted in the Govt. Middle
School in Kamaraj Nagar and health education about
prevention of scabies, dental caries and prevention of worm
infestation are given.
-Breast feeding awareness programme is conducted for "Breast
Feeding" week,
- Sex education programmes are conducted among adolescent girls
in Govt.Schools.
- Health education is given on weaning, child safety, prevention of
diarrhea, prevention of worm infestation and prevention of
scabies to create awareness among people in Kamaraj Nagar.
RURAL:
Both first year and third year students are posted in Adhavathur
and Allithurai for their rural posting.
- Community surveys are conducted to diagnose the health status of
the community.
- Students visit families to identify the problems and
needs of the families.
- School health programmes are conducted in the primary schools in
Allithurai and Adhavathur and health education is given about
prevention of scabies, dental Caries and prevention of worm
infestation.
- Our students conduct community Nutrition programmes for
antenatal mothers to create awareness about Iron and Calcium
rich diet.
HOSTEL FACILITIES:
Totally 15 rooms are allotted for 60 students. 4 students share
a room. Rooms are furnished with cots, tables, chairs, a book
rack, a cupboard and a cloth rack for each student. Toilet,
bathroom facilities and wash basins are provided on each floor.
There is a common room for recreation and a television set is
provided for students.
There is a hygienic kitchen and dinning hall to seat 50 students
at a time with adequate tables, chairs, water coolers,
refrigerators and heating facilities.
NURSING COURSE:
Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
The course extends for three and a half years in General Nursing
and Midwifery. The School of Nursing follows the syllabus as
laid down by the Indian Nursing Council.
ELIGIBILITY:
Minimum and Maximum age for admission will be 17 to 35 yrs.

REQUIREMENTS:
10th +2 class passed or its equivalent, with science (Physics,
Chemistry and Biology) subjects with aggregate of 50% marks.
10 +2 (vocational Nursing group)
The candidate must have passed the qualifying examination in
the first attempt.
Personal and social qualifications: Good mental health, desire for
service
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
Application Forms called for are scrutinized. Then the candidate appears
for a written test and for a personal interview. 20 candidates
are selected on merit basis.
